My God, they are allowing women to play games now? Next thing you know they'll be giving them the vote!

So it doesn't surprise me that close to half of gamers are female. It's just sad that they (or at least the few I know) feel the need to hide their gender to enjoy themselves.

You're right.. the first day i played WoW some guy came and helped me with a quest, i was just happy that alevel 15 wanted to help a level 3.. every day after that i kept getting messages asking me to team up, and how lovely my character looked today and stuff (i know it's just stupid stuff, but it's just really tiresome when people make stupid comments, even after i've told them im busy and stuff) anyway, eventually i sent him a message saying 'you do know i'm a guy playing a girl right?' and he never replied, and i've not heard from him since :P

Jedsia has a valid point. Women should not have to defend themselves. Nor do they deserve any harrasment of any kind. I too am married (22 years) and my wife HATES games. However, she knows that my daughter and I like to play this one. My wife sees it as a Daddy/Daughter bonding thing. When I join a PUG I always ask how long have you played online games. I even asked people's ages. Once I let them know that I am a Happily married old dood and a Father of a child playing this game the trust level goes right up. I have told women/teengagers that if they are being harrassed in any way shape or form I will help them along in having the idiot(s) banned from the game. I do this as if these ladies were my own children. I am very protective of younger people in this game. Since it is a free online game I can see the possibility of sick-0-perverts "farming" for unsuspecting young adults.

With regards to what I said, it's been proven scientifically that Men and Women have different abilities associated to the way there brains are wired.
I could give examples of all different things that are different between men and woman, but that is for another topic and probably another forum.
One quick example though. Women can do more than one thing at once. Talk on the phone, watch TV, Iron, read a book and write a note all at the same time. Why, because they have that ability in there brains.
Men on the other hand, can only do one thing at once, hense the reason, that if you ever try and talk to a man, while he is ingrossed in his game and he shouts at you, it's probably because you distracted him and he got killed.
So always make sure he has his position saved first.

One of the things I was getting at, was not so much that the woman would play FPS just because they can see the detail in the form it was meant to be portrayed, as I know that being good at it as well is also a must. Probably more to point out, that maybe women don't play computers in general, because they can't see what we get out of what is on the screen, as they can't see the details on screen in the way that most men see flat images.

Like I said, this has been proven scientifically, although always brings up the sceptics(not saying you're one. Pointing that remark at the scientists. )
I'm also not a geneticist, but the tests I have tried out on my female friends has proven a lot of what I have looked into in this area, in the ways men and women react to different things. All very interesting.

With regards to FPS Co-op, Death Match etc, i'm useless at it. Maybe it's because i don't enjoy them, or it's because there are a lot of cheats out there, and I just can't be bothered to go through all the PK'ing and I've only just stepped on the stage, and one shot and I'm dead.

I stick to single player as I know I am good at it, and have fun with the PvP in this game too.

As for gaming girls, like i said, I'm all for it, and the more that join in the better. Playing with girls is just as fun as gaming with boys.

One thing i will say though. There are both men and women who hate gaming and computers in general and would rather spend there time, money and energy in a pub.

As a gamer myself, I enjoy the community a good game can bring, and I have my beer with me. I have also made a lot of good friends in the process and have met a few in real life too. They are just as fun outside as in game. I just don't like the smokey atmosphere of most pubs.

Sorry for the long post again. lol

No worries. I've got my coffee now.

I do agree that men and woment think differently, I'm just not sure where the line should be drawn at "that's a male thing" or "that's a woman thing". There's exceptions to every rule, though so who knows.

As for the FPS and being good. I meant just that. I'm no good at any game that requires rapid-fire and quick timing. My brain will work that fast, but I can't get my trigger finger to respond that quickly. I never got very far in Mario Bros. either. In school, I NEVER froze up on tests, except typing. Don't know what it is, but stress and typing/button pushing don't work well with me.

before I played MMO's I would have agreed, But after playing several games online and meeting tons of women gamers, I tend to think 43% is about right.

cheers

At least they are playing. You have to learn to crawl before you walk. Instead of complaining, have you ever tried to teach them to play. Seriously teach! Take your time, explain, listen to what they are having trouble with. You would be amazed at how much of that can be very appreciated by some of these young ladies. You will not "win them all over" but who knows, they might teach you a thing or two about how a woman wants to be treated. I wish I had listened to advice simular to this when I was younger.

Read the posts in this forum and listen to what people say in your team or guild. You'd be amazed how many wives, girlfriends, daughters, mothers, etc., etc. play games. A lot of them even buying another copy so they can play together. Like Old Warrior Dood said: "Take your time, explain, listen to what they are having trouble with." That's how I learned my girlfriend to play a lot of games and even appreciate them.

Interesting.

I'm whats considered a 'hardcore' (level capped, MC/Onyx) WoW player thats moved over to GuildWars due to the Drama in WoW.

Blizzard intentionally creates situations (via item drops or otherwise) that force players into different kinds of interactions with each other (for example an item thats great for 3 builds of Class A but 1 build of Class B). There are many other aspects of WoW that generate Drama, and I'm afraid to say there are players that are drawn to that aspect of the game. They feel they are 'contributing to the community' spending their time posting in forums, and generally contributing to esclating drama all over the game.

In my experience most of these 'drama seekers' have been women. Dont get me wrong, some of the most skilled and wise players have been female but it does seem that the 'Drama' aspect of some MMORPGs is the draw for some of them.

Guildwars has far less drama than World of Warcraft, as anyone who has been serious with both games can attest. I welcome and encourage female presence in any game, but please ladies and affeminite men - play the game. You contribute far more to the online community by playing than trolling boards for drama to comment on.

Um... right.

I am a male. I can do many things at once. Sorry to blow your theory out of the wate, but *** BOOOM ***

Are there differences; yes.
Are they hard and fast; no.

Scientists have yet to figure out what is environmental and what is genetic... so in your example perhaps it is more prevalent due to environmental factors that women were able to multi-task, but not due to genetics.

The real question is how old is old warrior dude...

Yesterday in game I had some young "punk" laugh at me for being 38 and playing games... needless to say he quickly got pimped slaped by multiple 30 somethings.

Pretend you're working?

I'm 30 myself, my husband 38 and my oldest son, 9, played some, but I was concerned about,...shall we say...the content within the towns.

9 years old is too young to hear some of the dither I see in those towns, heck, even 30 is too old sometimes for what comes out of these kids mouths

As for drama....hehe..I'll leave that alone and just continue playing. Forums are generally where people like to share ideas, communicate and talk about the game...wow go figure

I just find it funny that in these times, where computers are such a part of our lives, its so unbelievable women might actually want to play. Course I got that alot too when I was playing pool.

It's a man thing, leave it alone, you dont belong here. My reply? Just watch me work

Well, in Half Life the mouse controls direction. So she walks forwards, jumps, crouches etc.. and I turn and shoot.

As for being scared of electronical monsters.. read what I put. I get scared of things jumping out suddenly. Not the things themselves. I cower in kiddie ghost trains when glow in the dark spiders appear. Just cos that's what frightens me. Stuff suddenly appearing.

So sue me.

As to Kryton King or whatever he's called and his post about "Yeah and she's probably 150 Kg"....

Do you really want to go down this road? Totally uneccessary and I will actually answer this. I am in fact around that weight, possibly heavier. I am in fact a british size 12-14 (larger for my top half). I am this heavy because the joint condition I was born with has allowed certain muscles to over develope while I have grown naturally, and therefore I am heavy. I have a strong upper body and I used to horse ride so my thighs and arse are muscle central.

If you have a problem with my weight, and for some reason it offends you. Then tough sh*t. Fact of the matter is, buddy.. I can change the way I look or how much I weigh, but you will have that bollocks of a personality for the rest of your life.
Oh and.. no offense to ANY guys out there (I'm sure you're all lovely) but I have met many MANY guys over the net and who play games.. and none of them are film stars themselves. So who are you to judge what's good looking and what's not when you're not a basket of fruit yourself.
Sorry for the long post but I feel I have the right to defend myself, I was very hurt reading that post. I actually went to the last page first and saw quotes about it and was thinking "God, poor girl who that was about"... and then I find out it was about me.
This forum isn't for sh*t like that, and let me just issue a warning here. That is uncalled for, and I've seen some of your other posts too. If you continue to post uneccessary garbage then I can assure you the mods will be in contact. People deserve to enjoy these forums. Not be flamed.

P.s.. guys here are saying they haven't met girls who are good at computer games? Well heh.. I haven't met a guy who was good at them. Least not better than me. You just haven't met the right people.

Re-reading my post I was afraid I might be misunderstood but you guys/girls seem to get it. These forums are excellent, and what Drama is here is generally from complaining 18-year-old D2 players yet to hit puberty.

Its great to see the women gamers are interested in the game, first and foremost.
